"I had it all and yet I was extremely unhappy"   

In this episode I'm talking to GameChanger Kevin Palmieri, CFO, founder and co-host of Next Level Podcast Solutions.   
Kevin talks about something a lot of us entrepreneurs recognise: functionally everything was fine, but he was also aware of the fact that he knew he wanted to live differently.   

"I was more fulfilled when I was broke"
As many personal entrepreneurial stories, Kevin's story involves a tremendous pain as well. Growing up without a father, his live was marked already from a young age.  Although he had many successes personally and professionally, one day, he found himself having suicidal thoughts. Eventually he turned those around in a powerful Next Level University and set up a foundation that helps children without fathers.   

Today he helps many people to create a better and happier life, to become a better person and partner and all with three key elements: consistency, confidence and overcoming limiting beliefs.

In this episode I’m interviewing another amazing GameChanger: John Follis. It's so great to talk to a fellow Marketeer about the craft (because that's what's Marketing is!), his experiences in NYC and his current contribution to the world.

Anyone who’s worked on Mad Ave a week has a story. John spent 3 decades there — first, getting fired. Then, getting famous. Selected one of Mad Ave’s “12 Best” by The NY Ad Club John has been an ADWEEK columnist and featured speaker at venues including The World Business Academy and Yale. His agency, Follis DeVito Verdi, was one of New York’s most awarded.

John also has the unique honor of being acknowledged at both The White House and The UN for his effective public service work. He’s also been fired 4 times and been told he has no talent. John: "I began on Madison Ave with the top agencies in the US on accounts like VW, Pizza Hut and Coke. That led to the co-founding of my own agency, Follis&Verdi, which became one of the most awarded creative agencies in the country. As the media and marketing landscape changed, so did my business.

In '04, I created one of the first online consultancies, "Follis Marketing Therapy", which enabled business owners across the US to work with me directly on their marketing and creative issues.

In '06, I hosted and produced the first marketing podcast; "The Marketing Show with John Follis" which continued for 7 years.

In 2013, to meet the demand for the exploding digital video market, we added "Big Idea Video" which offers businesses a variety of high-impact web video content including animated "explainer videos". Currently, that work is featured on Vimeo, LinkedIn, and 4 YouTube Channels."

"In deze podcast spreek ik één van mijn 1-op-1 klanten Myrte Scheffer.   

Myrte heeft, na een opeenstapeling van verdrietige verliezen, op een bepaald moment in 2020 besloten om haar leven en bedrijf volledig om te gooien. Maar hoe wist ze nog niet. Het werd uiteindelijk een reis naar London waar ze getraind werd als Public Speaker, vervolgens een “rouwreis” door heel Spanje, ze reed haar motor naar Barcelona, ze werkte voor een organisatie die gratis onderwijs verzorgd voor kinderen in een lokale community in Tanzania, ze deed haar eerste sprekersklus op international vrouwendag in Parijs dit jaar en ze reisde afgelopen zomer 2 maanden naar Bali waar ze in samenwerking met een hoge priester een spirituele reis heeft gemaakt.  Dit noemt ze haar Identiteitsreis en die heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ze nu echt leeft en onderneemt vanuit haar diepste kern met haar bedrijf GameChangers United.  Onlangs heb ik zelf ook een 4 uur durende identiteitsreis bij Myrte geboekt en sindsdien stroomt het veel meer in mijn bedrijf. In deze podcast spreken we elkaar over onze reis en waarom het stuk identiteit zo cruciaal is."

In this episode we're taking you all the way to a sacred valley in Peru where Michael and his wife Jamie, run a GameChanging Healing & Evolution Center with Ayahuasca in a Trauma-informed Environment.   

Our interview became an interesting mix of deep diving into the spiritual terms and techniques to make "trauma-informed and multi-dimensional healing" more accessible. It can sounds "far from your bed" but it should be very close since it's all about getting back to yourself, heal the pains and trauma's that you still hold inside and therefor became your main driven mechanism.   

Spirituality is often seen as something outside of you, but it's actually the opposite and should be getting more and more implemented in the world. You don't have to meditate the whole day to tap into yourself as the endless source for wisdom and guidance. I use it every day when I go for my daily walk and think consciously about my day ahead for example.   

By healing, you become better. As a person, as a friend/husband and as an entrepreneur.   

We also talk about being a "conscious entrepreneurship", an example of social entrepreneurship what this podcast is all about: what path did Michael walk before he could start and the successful and impactful "Casa Galactica", how do they stay true to themselves in their market approach, sales and social media (which they narrowed down to only podcasts!) and most importantly: how do you keep standing firm behind these aligning decisions?  How do you build a business around your spiritual purpose?  

As in all interviews, we share both our experiences in order to inspire our audience.   

Lastly, we talk about their work in the sacred valley of Peru; what is the Game they want to change, how do you do that and where can you find more information?

In deze bijzondere aflevering interview ik mijn opa van 90, een echte GameChanger die net na de Tweede Wereldoorlog voor veel innovaties heeft gezorgd bij, wat uitgroeide tot, de grootste klompenfabriek van Nederland, het huidige Gevavi.   

Zet de NL ondertiteling aan voor extra ondersteuning mocht het dialect teveel worden ;)  

Met zijn ideeën heeft hij veel nieuwe dingen bedacht zoals de stempel voor de figuren op de klompen zoals we ze nu kennen, het ontwikkelen van een methode om beschadigde klompen toch te kunnen verkopen en het samenvoegen van twee afval materialen waardoor een nieuwe lijm ontstond (circulair!).   Zo op het oog lijken deze zaken nu heel vanzelfsprekend, maar in die tijd, midden jaren 50, zorgden deze innovaties voor een revolutie in de Nederlandse klompenindustrie en tot op de dag van vandaag worden ze gebruikt in de processen en productie.

Door zijn werk en ideeën, werden niet alleen processen versneld, maar er werden ook volledige werkzaamheden geautomatiseerd. Hierdoor werd enorm bezuinigd op materiaal- en personele kosten, werd de verkoop en productie verhoogd en hierdoor dus significant meer omzet gedraaid in een booming markt: heel Nederland liep op dat moment op klompen.   

Zijn verhaal wilde ik altijd al een keer vastleggen. Het is zo inspirerend om te horen hoe hij dat vroeger heeft gedaan en ervaren en ook pijnlijk omdat hij nooit echt de erkenning heeft gekregen voor zijn werk. Dat ligt ook deels aan hemzelf en hier heeft hij tot op de dag van vandaag nog wel eens moeite mee: was hij maar meer voor zichzelf opgekomen. Had hij maar het lef gehad om écht voor zichzelf te beginnen. Maar dat kon niet in die jaren en vooral niet met 4 jonge kinderen.   

We spreken kort over zijn leven in de oorlog (en hier gaan we nog een keer een aparte aflevering voor opnemen), zijn gezin van herkomst en natuurlijk over zijn werk in de klompenfabriek. Hij heeft nooit de kans gekregen op onderwijs, want zijn 4 volledig dove broers/zusjes moesten een vak leren en hierdoor was er voor de andere 10(!) kinderen geen geld voor scholing.   

Toch heeft een echte GameChanger zijn talent niet op school geleerd, het zit in je.  

En het gaat er ook nooit meer uit. "Als ik nu in de schuur kom, heb ik nog zoveel ideeën en dan denk ik: zal ik toch nog een keer voor mezelf beginnen..."   

Deze man.
